Practice Philosophy
“Practice without improvement is meaningless.” - Chuck Knox
Our practices will abide by the following tenets.
Effort determines everything. Every successful program is built on the players who give their best effort each day. We will constantly preach and develop the effort in our players by the following three guidelines
Burst - Noticeably changing speed at the moment of recognition
Speed - Moving at the top speed you can achieve
Finish - Completing every play with a sense of urgency to the whistle.
If any of those elements are missing, you are not helping our team get better, thereby helping our opponent.
Fast paced and efficient. With less than two hours on the field and no built in conditioning period, our players will move quickly throughout practice to build our game conditioning without having to aimlessly run at the end of a practice.
Coach with equal PASSION. Each player has tangible differences that make them respond to different coaching methods. We will seek out how to best coach each player, but they will all be done with the same passion, regardless of ability or differences.
Practical Drills - Every drill must have a purpose that directly translates to the game. Players are asking “Why?” more than ever before. We have to show them we aren’t wasting their time, and what we are doing in practice directly translates to making them better on the field.
Purposeful time - There are any number of things our players could be doing besides practice. Compared to any other high school sport, Football requires the most practice time for the fewest number of competitions. We will make use of all our time by scripting each moment of practice and finding ways to utilize every player that is giving of their valuable time to our program.
